Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! The NIMAL cup has a firm polypropylene sleeve which protects your hands along with securing the cup in a strong position allowing it to be reliable.
No. The NIMAL cup has an airtight seal once the lid is closed properly.
We recommend rinsing your NIMAL cup before your first use, and washing regularly to keep it in tip top condition. To clean, squeeze the silicone cup into a “C” shape to separate the collar as well as the heat sleeve, and unscrew the lid. You can wash your NIMAL Cup by hand with warm water and mild soap, or place it on the top rack of your dishwasher.
Since NIMAL cups are made of platinum food grade silicone, it is normal to have a natural silicone smell before your first use. Some strong-smelling foods and drinks may also leave residual fragrance or taste on your NIMAL cup.
Here are some simple ways to remove any lingering aromas or tastes:
1. Place your silicone cup in boiling water to sterilize and remove strong odors (NOTE: Please remove all plastic components; lid, collar and heat sleeve before boiling your NIMAL cup).
2. Submerge the cup in a mixture of hot water and white vinegar using the ratio of one cup vinegar for every two cups of hot water. Soak for 30 minutes, then scrub gently with a cleaning sponge.
3. Coat your NIMAL cup with a mixture of white vinegar and baking soda using the ratio of one tablespoon of white vinegar to two tablespoons of baking soda. Allow the coated cup to sit overnight. Rinse with water to completely remove the mixture and dry thoroughly.
Once the lid and mouth tab are properly sealed, it should be leak-proof. Please make sure you have assembled your cup properly. Note: Do not squish the cup from the silicone when it’s filled with fluid.
NIMAL cups are made of LFGB certified platinum food grade silicone & FDA grade polypropylene, or #5 recyclable plastic. We believe our customers deserve the best quality materials, and transparency into our production standards. Note: LFGB is the German food safety standard, which has safer and higher standards than the US’ FDA standards. Our cups are free of BPAs, BPSs, phthalates, lead, and adhesives.
All NIMAL cups are manufactured responsibly in China. Our manufacturing operations meet acceptable standards for quality, safety, fair labor, ethical business practices, and environmental responsibility. Our manufacturing and sourcing partners maintain certifications for Quality Management System (ISO 9001) and Environmental Management System (ISO 14001) standards.
Squeeze the silicone cup into a “C” shape to fit it into the collar, and make sure the edge of the cup lines up evenly above the collar. Then, screw on the lid and slip on the heat sleeve.
Basically, anything that fits. Some of our favorite beverages are coffee, smoothies, and tea, but our cups have also been used for fruit, soup, chips, and more. Go nuts!
While NIMAL cups are leak-proof, we can’t guarantee that the other items in your bag won’t squish your NIMAL cups and cause it to explode. So, we recommend against this.
The silicone cup of the NIMAL cup is microwave-safe, but we strongly suggest removing all plastic components (lid, collar, and heat sleeve) before microwaving.
The heat sleeve, lid, and collar are all made of #5 recyclable plastic. The silicone cup, tab, and straw, however, would need to be recycled through a local municipal recycling program, like ECO USA. We recommend reaching out to your community to find out the best way to recycle these.
